Hi! My name is Beth Lucas and I am the owner and designer of Beth Lucas Design. As a technical designer in the NYC fashion industry, I have worked with so many creative talented designers. I loved bringing their flat sketches to life and going through the creative development process. Now, I am so excited to share with you my love and passion for fashion design and hand crafting. I have created this website to share my talents of sewing, patternmaking, knitting, crocheting and technical design.

When I was about 8 years old, my grandmother taught me how to crochet. I was pretty much obsessed from that moment on and my handcrafting life was born. I have never stopped crafting new projects. I went on to teach myself how to knit and embroider, and then took a sewing class at night school and practiced on my mom’s sewing machine. Years later while I was teaching ESL I realized I wanted to pursue my passion for fashion and design, so I went back to school at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After three years of going to school at night and weekends, I got my associates degree in Fashion Design, with a specialization in Eveningwear.

Throughout the last seventeen years, I have worked in the fashion industry in New York City as both a technical designer and production manager for women’s apparel, ranging from the luxury market to the mass market. Even when I was working full-time, I always had a side hustle as a custom sewer and technical designer, which allowed me the freedom to explore and develop my entrepreneurial and creative spirit.

Over the years, I just kept building upon each new skill I learned through trial and error. I am still learning with each new project I begin. I hope by sharing my creative and business process, you will be inspired to do the same.
